About Us
What We do
Mira Didi sources raw materials from the bustling bazaars of Pune, India. Our talented artisans handpick sarees and transform them into unique, hand-stitched garments. Each piece is meticulously crafted, ensuring that no two items are the same. In addition, we work with women in Laos, who create various types of bags (like tote bags, fanny packs, and backpacks) from recycled cement bags. Through our efforts, we aim to promote a circular economy, reduce textile waste, and support local communities and artisans.
Who We Are
Mira Didi is a women-owned business dedicated to promoting sustainability and empowering marginalized women through upcycling fashion. We transform used or second-hand sarees into new clothing and products, reducing waste, saving resources, and creating value from existing materials. Our mission is to make a positive impact on both the environment and society by supporting vulnerable women, particularly those from the Dalit and denotified tribes in India and disadvantaged communities in Laos, providing them with education, skills, and employment opportunities.
Our team
Our team is composed of dedicated women from diverse backgrounds who share a common goal of making a sustainable change in society. In India, our artisans have undergone extensive training with MasterG, gaining certification free of cost, thanks to the support of Mira Didi. They now work with the Indian Association Committee, earning appropriate wages and contributing to the creation of beautiful garments like shirts, pants, and dresses. In Laos, our women artisans create unique bags from recycled materials, showcasing their creativity and craftsmanship.
